The 74 th independence day arrived amid Covid-19 pandemic. Universities like us are grappling with seemingly impossible choices that balance health risks associated with on-campus learning and the other option of online learning against the educational needs of our students. The pandemic has not only affected our student’s achievements , it has taken away from the youth opportunities to learn social skills that only a formal learning environment can provide. The department of English, Islamabad campus took an initiative on August 13 th , 2021 to showcase talents of our students by engaging the students online to celebrate nationhood as well as highlighting the achievements of our talented students.The event began with tilawat and Dean’s address. The Dean FSSH, Dr.Atiquzzafar Khan inspired the students to work harder and contribute towards the betterment of their motherland in line with the vision of RIPHAH university . All the faculty members expressed their patriotic sentiments before the students . The next segment was showcasing the talents of shining students ; Miss. Nimra Aftab and Aqsa Habib from BS 1 st semester presented their paintings and artwork. Miss.Zunaira Wajid from BS 4 th semester and Nayab Waseem from BS 8 th semester read out articles and posts from their blogs . Ms.Sara Riaz and Mahnoor Afzal from BS 5 th semester recited their poems highlighting the struggles of our national heroes. The ceremony ended with the Head of the department’s message to the girls to follow the footsteps of contemporary young role models like the Pakistani mountaineer who was pushed forward on the cliff of Mt.Everest by her brother to set the world record and be the first ever Pakistani woman to climb mount Everest “ embrace Pakistaniyat, do not be influenced by the neo – feminist agenda! Respect your fathers, brothers and other male relatives, if you want to be successful,” Ms.Samina Najeeb said. The faculty decorated the department with green balloons and buntings and the ceremony concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony followed by the national anthem.
