Introduction

Optometry is a diverse and engaging health care profession, which encompasses not only the detection of refractive errors but also detection and management of eye diseases, fitting and prescription of contact lenses care of patients with low vision, offering advice on problems with color vision, it is a vast field that goes side by side with all other medical sciences. Optometry is one of the most blessed professions as it deals with enhancing and aiding people with the gift of sight, perhaps one of the most important and most fascinating senses of the body. Optometrists provide general eye and vision care through general practice and more specialized practice such as contact lens practitioners, pediatric optometrists, orthoptists, low vision practitioners (for visually impaired patients), serve as consultant optometrists and dispensing advisors incorporate optical outlets, occupational vision (to protect and preserve workers’ vision and minimize eye strain), sports vision, vision therapy, work with multinational companies as technical experts. Optometrists may find jobs in public health departments/hospitals, teaching and research institutions, international organizations, & NGOs. They may continue their higher studies in masters and doctoral programs.

 

PROGRAM OBJECTIVE

To provide opportunities in exploring the fascinating world of eye care and visual health through
our comprehensive four years program. This will not only help our undergraduates in acquiring
advance knowledge and develop expertise in Optometry and Orthoptics but will also enable them
to conduct research in the ophthalmic field. This is how students will be empowered to become a
skilled eye care professional

CAREER PATHWAYS

After getting the degree of BS Optometry and Orthoptics, the graduates may work in public/
private hospitals/ NGOs or their own independent set up as:
• Consultant Optometrist
• Contact lens practitioners
• Pediatric optometrists
• Orthoptists
• Low vision rehabilitation practitioners
Beside this, they can also pursue their studies further for Masters or PhD in Optometry and can
join the Academia
