Over two decades, Pakistan's Muslim society is facing social issues like increase in khula and divorce cases, while NGOs and educational institutions promote secular European liberal values in the name of women's rights.
Educational institutions like Riphah International University has a moral and legal obligation to not only to underscore the universal Islamic ethical, social values but also establish a center for addressing social issues, and provide a platform for experiential learning on issues like rise in divorce, single parents, child neglect, family solidarity, wellbeing of women and mental health. Women Wellbeing Program (WWP) was therefore established in May 2020 as a result of the collective efforts of Professor Dr. Anis Ahmed (Vice Chancellor, Riphah International University), and Dr. Kouser Firdaus (Advisor to the Vice Chancellor, Riphah International University).
Riphah International University promotes an Islamic culture for a just and sustainable society, raising individuals who understand their actions' consequences and community impact. The program aims to ensure family stability and harmony by implementing sharia-compliant women's rights.
Since 2020, the program has been offering certificate and diploma courses twice a year, with PGD underway. We aim to train Family Mental Health Counselors for family counseling and mediations, Imam-e-Masjid at Union Councils Level, addressing social challenges and promoting healthy behaviors through counseling for community productivity.
