Board of Advanced
Studies and Research (BASR)
The Board of Advanced Studies and Research (BASR) is a statutory body of the University established under its Charter. It is responsible for overseeing, guiding, and promoting all academic and research activities at the postgraduate and doctoral levels.
The Board of Advanced Studies and Research (BASR) serves as the principal forum for ensuring the quality, integrity, and advancement of research work and postgraduate studies in the University. Through its regulatory and advisory functions, BASR fosters a research-driven academic culture aligned with national and international standards.
Purpose
The primary purpose of BASR is to:
- Provide academic and strategic leadership in advanced studies and research.
- Standardize, regulate, and monitor MS/MPhil and PhD programs.
- Promote a research-oriented academic culture through quality assurance and policy guidance.
- Approve the successful completion of MS and PhD degrees based on research and academic performance.
Scope
BASR’s scope covers all aspects of postgraduate and research-based programs, including:
- Oversight of all postgraduate and research-based degree programs.
- Approval of thesis topics, synopses, supervisors, and research proposals.
- Approval of external and internal examiners.
- Approval of evaluation reports, results, and final award of MS and PhD degrees.
- Framing research policies and procedures to uphold international academic and ethical standards.
Functions
The BASR is entrusted with the following functions:
- Advising University Authorities on matters related to advanced studies and research publications.
- Considering and recommending the institution of research degrees.
- Proposing regulations for the award of research degrees.
- Appointing supervisors for postgraduate research students.
- Approving thesis/dissertation titles and synopses.
- Recommending examiners for research evaluations.
- Performing other functions as prescribed by University Statutes.
Composition
The BASR comprises distinguished academic leaders and experts:
- Chairman: Vice Chancellor, Riphah International University.
- Members:
- All Deans of Faculties.
- One University Professor from each Faculty (appointed by the Academic Council).
- One University Professor from each Faculty, other than Dean (appointed by the Board of Governors).
- One member nominated by the Vice Chancellor.
- Three members from relevant Research Organizations and Government Departments (nominated by the Board of Governors).
- Secretary: The Registrar of the University.
