Program Description
The Aim of Basic Medical Sciences PhD program is to train the highly motivated students with the opportunities to develop skills and experience to investigate various research problems, which will equip them to take on the challenges of tomorrow. This is a rigorous and challenging program, which will enable the students to become critical thinkers, lifelong learners, and collaborative investigators and upon successful completion the student will pursue new ideas and approaches in biomedical research through new investigative techniques. It has an inter disciplinary curriculum with 5 core subjects and remaining elective subjects.

For Pakistani Nationals
To be eligible for admission to the program, a candidate shall possess MS/MPhil or its equivalent degree with a minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 3.0 on the 4.0 scale or minimum of 60% marks (in the annual system) in a relevant discipline from a recognized University/ Institution. However, a department may make more stringent criteria for any of its programs under prescribed manners.
a)The candidate must have carried out and successfully defended at least 6 credit hours of research work with dissertation/thesis in MS/MPhil or its equivalent degree.
b)The candidate must have passed the University/Departmental admission test in the subject or equivalent test conducted by an authorized/recognized body of the HEC for admission in the program.
c)The candidate must have passed securing 70% marks in the university/Departmental admission test in the subject or equivalent test conducted by an authorized/Recognized body of the HEC for admission in the program.
d)The admission to a program shall be made on the basis of cumulative merit to be determined from the previous academic record, prescribed written test and interview.
e)Anyone who has been rusticated or expelled by a university, degree awarding institute or college for misconduct or for use of unfair means in the examinations or for any offence involving moral turpitude shall not be eligible for admission in any program of the University.
f)Each department shall have a Graduate Admissions Committee for its program(s). The committee shall suggest criteria for admission from time to time and accept, scrutinize and evaluate the applications for admission, determine merit, finalize and recommend admissions for approval of the Dean for each intake session. Admission in a program shall be based only on criteria approved by the BASR and duly endorsed by the Academic Council.

Merit / Selection Criteria
Selection Criteria for MPhil Programs
The selection process for MPhil programs at IIMC evaluates candidates comprehensively, with a total score of 100 marks. To secure admission, candidates must achieve at least 50% of the total score. The distribution of marks is as follows:
1. Entry Test Marks (75 Marks)
- Candidates must appear for the entry test, which contributes 75% to the total score.
2. Academic Evaluation (5 Marks)
Academic achievements are assessed based on the following criteria:
- Final Professional Marks (Division): 1 mark for achieving a division in the final professional exam.
- Distinction in Final Professional: 1 mark for securing a distinction in the final professional exam.
- Previous Teaching Experience: 1 mark for verified teaching experience.
- Article Published: 1 mark for publication in a recognized journal.
- Workshop Attended: 1 mark for participation in relevant workshops.
3. Interview (20 Marks)
The interview evaluates candidates on:
- Turnout and Behavior: 1 mark.
- Communication Skills: 2 marks.
- Interview Performance: 17 marks.
4. Total Academic/Interview Marks (25 Marks)
- The sum of Academic and Interview scores contributes 25% to the total score.
5. Final Score (100 Marks)
- The Entry Test Marks and Academic/Interview Marks are combined to determine the final score.
- A minimum of 50% (50 marks out of 100) is required for admission eligibility.
6. Application Process
- Applications must be submitted online.
- Upon submission, candidates will receive an application ID.
- Ensure all required documents (academic transcripts, certificates of teaching experience, published articles, and workshop certificates) are uploaded for verification.
