Program Description
The PhD in Electrical Engineering is offered in accordance with the guidelines of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan. Applicants seeking admission to the program must hold an 18-year MS degree with a minimum CGPA of 3.00 out of 4.00.
The program consists of 20 credit hours of coursework and 30 credit hours dedicated to research leading to a doctoral dissertation. The coursework is selected in consultation with the PhD supervisor from the approved list of graduate-level courses, ensuring alignment with the candidate’s research interests.
Upon successful completion of the coursework, students are required to pass a comprehensive examination to qualify for PhD candidacy. The doctoral dissertation is evaluated by two international experts from technologically advanced countries and one local expert. Following favorable evaluations, the candidate must successfully defend the dissertation in an open public defense to fulfill the degree requirements.
Additionally, candidates are required to complete a minimum on-campus residency of two years and publish at least one research paper in a reputable impact-factor journal before the award of the PhD degree.

To be eligible for admission to the PhD in Electrical Engineering program, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Hold a minimum of 18 years of formal education with an MS/MSc degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Communication Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Industrial Electronics Engineering, Avionics Engineering, or an equivalent qualification from an HEC-recognized institution.
- Have obtained a minimum CGPA of 3.00 out of 4.00, or an equivalent qualification, in their MS/MSc degree.
- Qualify the GRE/HAT General Subject Test with a minimum score of 60 out of 100, as required under the HEC Admission Policy for Graduate Programs 2026.

Merit / Selection Criteria
Interview
- Eligible applicants will be required to appear for an interview conducted by the departmental admission committee. The interview serves as the final stage of the selection process and assesses the candidate's academic background, research aptitude, and suitability for admission to the PhD in Electrical Engineering program.

Degree Awarding Criteria
To qualify for the award of the PhD in Electrical Engineering degree, students must fulfill the following requirements:
Credit Hour Requirements
- Complete 20 credit hours of approved coursework.
- Complete 30 credit hours of research leading to a doctoral dissertation.
- Successfully complete 2 credit hours of Ethics, which are mandatory for all PhD students as per the University's policy.
Academic Requirements
- Maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 3.00 out of 4.00 in the coursework.
- Successfully pass the comprehensive examination to attain PhD candidacy.
- Obtain favorable evaluations of the doctoral dissertation from the prescribed external and local examiners.
- Successfully defend the dissertation in an open public defense.
- Fulfill the University's residency and publication requirements in accordance with the applicable HEC and University regulations.
