Specialization in English Literature and Linguistics

The MPhil in English Languageis a two year programme which isdesigned for those students who intend to learn and expand their understanding about English language and literature. The programme offers an opportunity for the specialization in English Literature and Linguistics andwould facilitate students for their future doctoral research in either disciplines.

The first yearis the course work which the divided into two semesters. In each semester students are expected to go through rigorous study, write term papers and meet up to the literary standards set by their teachers.In Literature the students are provided an opportunity to studyin depththe relation between Literature and culture including authors, philosophy, history and theoretical and philosophical questions. In the meanwhile, in Linguistics topics on Morphology and Syntax, Pragmatics, Semantics, Sociolinguistics and Stylisticsenlighten students about the structural and practical usage of English Language. All course work will be completed by the end of the second term

The second year of the MPhil programme is assessed via the submission of a dissertation/ research paper of approximately 30,0000 words which often forms the basis of doctoral research. Students who fail to submit their research papers in the prescribed time will have to repeat the coursework or otherwise will be dropped from the programme altogether.
