Wednesday, 19th November 2025
On November 19th, 2025, Riphah International University's Faculty of Rehabilitation & Allied Health Sciences (FRAHS) organized a World Diabetes Day event at Al-Mizan Campus. The theme was "Empowering Wellbeing in Diabetes Care" with a sub-theme focusing on "Know More, Do More for Diabetes at Work."
The program included an Awareness Walk, Research E-Poster Competition, virtual and on-site expert talks, and an on-campus blood glucose screening camp in collaboration with HealthNext Laboratory. The event aimed to promote early screening, workplace-friendly diabetes management strategies, and lifestyle modifications.
The event began at 09:00 AM with a Diabetes Awareness Walk led by Riphah Medical Lab Society and Riphah Rehab Society. Students and faculty carried informational placards promoting healthy eating, exercise, and routine glucose monitoring. The walk created an energetic start and helped build campus-wide engagement.
At 09:30 AM, the formal ceremony commenced with Tilawat by Mr. Hammad followed by the National Anthem. Ms. Laiba Irfan welcomed the audience and introduced the objectives of World Diabetes Day. Prof. Dr. Waqar Awan (Principal, FRAHS) delivered a Welcome Note emphasizing the role of universities in public health advocacy, community education, lifestyle modification, and student participation in preventive health initiatives.
Dr. Muhammad Ashar Rafi presented an insightful talk on diabetes prevention, modifiable risk factors, early lifestyle interventions, and the employer’s role in enabling workplace-based diabetes care. A highlight of his lecture was the live demonstration of the “Soleus Pushup,” a simple evidence-based physical activity to enhance peripheral circulation and glucose utilization.
Prof. Dr. Abdul Hameed delivered an online lecture covering global diabetes epidemiology based on the IDF 2025 Bangkok report. He discussed rising prevalence in South Asia, screening recommendations, and the importance of early preventive interventions.
The Research E-Poster Competition featured participants from the Departments of MLT and DPT. Winners from both departments were awarded certificates and shields to recognize their efforts. Several short awareness videos were also displayed during the event featuring key messages about regular screening, lifestyle modification, and workplace diabetes care.
A free blood glucose screening camp was operated by HealthNext Laboratory for students and faculty members. The event concluded with certificates presented to volunteers and organizers, souvenirs distributed to speakers, judges, and guests, and closing remarks from Dr. Waqar Ahmed Awan and Dr. Muhammad Waseem thanking the team and reinforcing the importance of community-centered awareness.
Key messages and recommendations included promoting interdisciplinary collaboration for awareness, screening, and community education; encouraging daily practical exercises like the Soleus Pushup for improved glucose regulation; and institutionalizing annual screening drives for early detection. The organizing committee expressed gratitude to various individuals and organizations involved in making the event a success.
