The Department of Medical Imaging Technology, Faculty of Rehabilitation and Allied Health Sciences (FRAHS), Riphah International University, Gulberg Campus Lahore, organized a Free Ultrasound Camp on 28th November in Syed Wala, District Nankana Sahib, as part of its ongoing commitment to accessible healthcare and community-centered education. The initiative aimed to raise awareness about the importance of early screening through ultrasonography while providing essential diagnostic services to underserved populations.
A team of 17 students and 4 faculty members actively participated in the camp, where 89 patients received free ultrasound scans. The activity allowed students to apply their academic learning in a real-world environment, gaining practical exposure in patient scanning, patient handling, and community interaction. This hands-on experience contributed significantly to strengthening their technical competence and interpersonal communication skills.
The camp also reinforced key educational and ethical values integral to Riphah’s academic philosophy. Students were able to:
- Apply clinical knowledge in a real patient-care setting (Professional Competence)
- Demonstrate compassion and empathy through service (Rahmah)
- Work collaboratively under faculty supervision (Ijtima’iyah — Teamwork)
Meaningful outcomes emerged from this initiative, including enhanced student confidence through direct diagnostic experience, improved community access to essential imaging services, and stronger linkages between the University and local healthcare needs.
This community outreach effort effectively combined academic training with practical, service-oriented learning, reaffirming the Department of Medical Imaging Technology’s dedication to experiential education, healthcare accessibility, and social responsibility.
Riphah International University extends sincere appreciation to the participating students, faculty members, SSD, and community representatives for their support in making this initiative impactful and successful.
