Wednesday, 12th November 2025
The Riphah College of Nursing (RCN) commemorated World Diabetes Day 2025 by organizing a Diabetes Awareness Session and Medical Screening Camp in collaboration with The Diabetes Center (TDC) on 12 November 2025 at the Al-Mizan Campus. This year’s global theme, “Diabetes at the Workplace,” guided the event’s focus on prevention, early detection, and health education for the campus community and surrounding areas.
The program opened with welcome remarks from Brig. Maqsood-ul-Hassan, Vice Principal, IIMCT, who emphasized the importance of awareness and timely screening in addressing Pakistan’s rising burden of diabetes. Mr. Wasiq Waseem, Community Engagement Officer at TDC, introduced the objectives of the session, setting the stage for an informative and interactive program.
Participants benefited from expert insights shared by Dr. Farah Shaikh, Officer Projects & Academics at TDC, who discussed the types, symptoms, and complications of diabetes, along with the significance of lifestyle modification for prevention. Mr. Raja Abid Ilyas, Dietitian and Certified Diabetes Educator, highlighted the importance of nutrition and provided practical tips for healthier dietary habits. Mr. Asif Shehzad, AM Admin & Operations at TDC, formally inaugurated the medical screening camp.
Throughout the event, faculty members and students from RCN volunteered actively, supporting guest management, screening facilitation, and health education. The Diabetes Center’s mobile health team conducted a full range of free health screenings, including blood sugar and blood pressure checks, BMI measurements, basic laboratory tests, eye screening, and doctor consultations.
The camp served a total of 150 individuals, identifying 22 potential diabetic cases who were advised to undergo further evaluation. TDC also offered continued screening and diagnostic services at their facility for all individuals requiring follow-up care. The event concluded with closing remarks and certificate distribution by Ms. Humaira Athar, Principal of Riphah College of Nursing.
The World Diabetes Day initiative successfully enhanced community awareness, encouraged preventive healthcare practices, and strengthened Riphah’s continued commitment to promoting health and wellbeing through education, service, and meaningful partnerships.
