ICME-IMEC 2025 Strengthens Global Ties in Health Professions Education
Monday, 13th October 2025
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – The Joint International Conference on Medical Education (ICME-IMEC 2025) concluded on an inspiring note at the International Medical University (IMU), marking another milestone in the global journey toward excellence and innovation in health professions education.
Organized under the theme “Globalisation of Health Professions Education: Strategies, Stakeholders and Sustainability,” the conference brought together over 400 participants — including educators, researchers, policymakers, and students — from 30 countries. The hybrid format, with 300 onsite and 100 online participants, enabled inclusive participation and vibrant exchange of ideas across borders.
Highlights of the Conference
The four-day event featured an impressive lineup of pre-conference workshops, keynote addresses, symposia, oral and poster presentations, and student sessions. Each segment reflected the shared mission of advancing sustainable and globally relevant medical education through innovation and collaboration.
A unique hallmark of ICME-IMEC 2025 was the collaboration of six international health professions education associations — ICME, IMEC, AMEE, IAMSE, SIMEC, and ESME — coming together under one roof to share experiences and best practices in medical education.
Celebrating Excellence and Recognition
The closing ceremony celebrated the achievements and contributions of participants through various awards, including:
- Poster and Oral Presentation Awards recognizing outstanding academic contributions
- The prestigious RHIME Award honoring excellence in medical education innovation
A special highlight of the event was the presentation of the Zulfiqar Life Time Achievement Award to Professor Ronald M. Harden, an iconic medical educationist and Nobel Laureate, in recognition of his extraordinary and transformative contributions to global medical education. The award, named after the late founding Chancellor of Riphah International University, Pakistan, Prof. Dr. Rashid Latif Zulfiqar, symbolizes the institution’s enduring commitment to leadership and innovation in education.
A Shared Vision for the Future
Reflecting on the conference’s success, participants emphasized that education truly transcends borders and that collaborative engagement is key to shaping the future of healthcare education worldwide.
Riphah International University extends its heartfelt congratulations to all organizers, speakers, award winners, and participants who contributed to making ICME-IMEC 2025 a remarkable success.
As the conference concluded, all eyes now turn toward ICME 2027, which will be jointly hosted by Arabian Gulf University (Bahrain) and Riphah International University (Pakistan) — continuing the mission to inspire, connect, and empower health professions educators across the globe.
