Seminar on Cyber Security, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Digital Journalism

Riphah FM 102.2 successfully hosted an awareness seminar on Cyber Security, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Digital Journalism on 19 June 2026, bringing together academics, journalists, media professionals, researchers, and students to discuss emerging technological challenges and opportunities in today’s rapidly evolving digital landscape.
The seminar was jointly organized by Riphah FM 102.2, the Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC), and the Young Journalists Association. The event aimed to raise awareness about cyber security, promote AI literacy, and prepare aspiring journalists to navigate the opportunities and challenges of digital media.
Addressing the participants, Prof. Dr. Mustafeez Mujtaba Babar, Director ORIC, emphasized the importance of collaboration among academia, researchers, and industry professionals. He highlighted that strong university-industry linkages are essential for ensuring that research addresses real-world challenges and generates meaningful impact. He further noted that such initiatives foster innovation, build valuable partnerships, and equip students and researchers with the skills necessary to contribute to Pakistan’s digital future.
Cyber security expert Saeed Najeeb-ul-Hassan delivered a session titled “How to Prevent Yourself from Cybercrime,” where he discussed the increasing sophistication of cyber threats and shared practical measures for digital safety. He encouraged participants to adopt strong passwords, enable two-factor authentication, and remain vigilant against online scams and cybercrime.
In another insightful session, Prof. Dr. Hafeez-ur-Rehman spoke on “Hack the Hacker: Cyber Hygiene for All.” He stressed that cyber hygiene has become an essential aspect of modern digital life and explained how responsible use of mobile devices, computers, and social media platforms can significantly reduce cyber security risks.
Discussing the transformation of the media industry, senior journalist Aamir Saeed Abbasi shared valuable insights into the evolving media landscape and the growing influence of digital platforms on news reporting and dissemination. Mahwar Qureshi, anchor at PTV News, delivered a presentation on “Digital Journalism and Challenges,” highlighting both the opportunities and concerns associated with digital media, particularly issues related to misinformation, fact-checking, and journalistic ethics.
The seminar also featured a session on AI literacy conducted by Dr. Rashid Ammar, Assistant Professor, who explained how artificial intelligence is transforming sectors such as education, healthcare, business, and media. He emphasized that a basic understanding of AI has become increasingly important for professionals and students alike as Pakistan continues its journey toward digital transformation.
Adding to the discussion, Dr. Zubair, Dean Faculty of Computing, Riphah International University, delivered a presentation focusing on the role of artificial intelligence, cyber security, and journalism in building public trust in the digital age. He underscored the importance of combating misinformation and ensuring the responsible use of emerging technologies to strengthen societal confidence in digital platforms.
The seminar was also attended by representatives of the Young Journalists Association, including Muhammad Yousaf Khan (President), Malik Zubair Awan (Chairman), and Anila Bashir (Secretary Coordination). They highlighted the association’s commitment to providing training, mentorship, and professional exposure opportunities for emerging journalists.
Speaking on the significance of industry-academia collaboration, Irfan Bhatti, In-charge of Riphah FM Radio Station, emphasized that partnerships between media institutions and educational organizations are vital for equipping young professionals with modern digital skills and promoting responsible media practices.
At the conclusion of the seminar, shields were presented to distinguished speakers in recognition of their valuable contributions, while certificates were distributed among participants. The organizers reaffirmed their commitment to continuing such initiatives to promote cyber awareness, responsible journalism, artificial intelligence literacy, and meaningful engagement with emerging technologies.
