Riphah Achieves Landmark Milestone with First PhD in Medical Laboratory Sciences in Punjab

Riphah International University has achieved a historic academic milestone as the Department of Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) proudly announces the successful PhD defense of Dr. Amna Kousar, who has become the first PhD scholar in Medical Laboratory Sciences (MLS) in Punjab and only the second in Pakistan.
Dr. Amna Kousar conducted her research under the supervision of Dr. M. Sohail, Head of Department MLT, along with co-supervisors Dr. Ghulam Murtaza and Dr. Mohsin Khursheed. Her research, titled “Genetic Mechanism of Antimicrobial Resistance in Serratia marcescens Clinical Isolates,” addresses critical challenges in understanding antimicrobial resistance, a growing concern in global healthcare.
The PhD defense was evaluated by distinguished external examiners, Dr. Maryam Zain and Dr. Aatif Amin, whose expertise contributed to maintaining high academic and research standards.
This achievement represents a significant advancement in allied health sciences education and research at Riphah International University. It highlights the institution’s commitment to fostering high-impact research, academic excellence, and innovation in medical and laboratory sciences.
