M.A. Mass Communication

The Communication Sciences Programme seeks to develop students’ talents in writing, speaking, management, human and public relations, and critical thinking with an aim of preparing them for a broad range of communication. A mass media professional has to both knowledgeable as well as appropriately skilful. This is possible only through systematic education and training in a good media institution before stepping into the media world.

RIMS has tailored the Mass Communication programme to the changing needs of society and relevant to the goals of our students. Specialisation is offered to enable the students develop particular skills and abilities in one or more academic disciplines.

PGD TV Production Leading To Ms

Post Graduate Diploma in TV Production gives the learners an opportunity to study media at postgraduate level. They will be provided with all the necessary theoretical instructions and practical skills, which give them a chance to make quality TV productions following the industry standards and practices.

Students, enrolled in this program, will have an option to get a diploma or an MA degree. Those who spend one year at RIMS will get a post graduate diploma, while others (completing two years) will get a degree of MA TV Production. Students who have completed 42 required credit hours PGD can shift their credits to MA TV Production within a time period of two years.

"Students with post graduate diploma will also have an option to join MA TV Production at the University of Bedfordshire, UK. Duration of masters at UOB will be term and a half."

At Institute of Media Sciences (RIMS) specialist professionals from varying backgrounds will be teaching the students. Students will also be provided with the complete practical environment including TV studios, screening room, Electronic Field Production (EFP) for outdoor shooting, Post Production Lab with ultramodern NLE machines and professional still and video cameras.

As a final requirement for the completion of the program, students will be undertaking a video project encompassing writing, directing and producing .RIMS has the arrangements to air these projects from various channels if they meet the required professional standards.

RIMS SUMMER SCHOOL

To evoke innovation and creativity in a subtle manner RIMS systematizes summer school. It caters to the training needs of the prospective candidates, interested to work both in public & private sector media industry or already engaged, but require skill development.

A significant improvement is made in the enhancement of information, knowledge and a positive attitude is developed towards Media was a way of life. And most importantly, they become a catalyst in mobilizing the community and creating a tolerant civil structure of the society, neutralizing the ethnic & sectarian differences through intelligently produced Current Affairs programmes, Dramas, Documentary and Screenplays.

Summer school is an orientation session that provides a feel created amongst students to be a part of the most demanding & challenging profession.

Professional Capacity Building Courses

In addition to the degree programmes, the university also plans to offer a number of professional capacity building courses for working professionals in the media industry across Pakistan. These will include; Short Courses, Workshops, Seminars and Post-Graduate Diplomas (PGD).

Creating awareness about responsive and responsible media production Continuing review and awareness of professional codes and ethics set by the professional and regulatory bodies.
To develop skills of analysis, synthesis, decision making and the ability to cope with complex journalistic problems.
To enhance the employability of its graduates and give them an edge in the competitive job market.

Links With Media

The University has established strong links with the media industry, including leading TV Channels, Production Houses, Radio Stations, News Agencies, Newspapers and Magazines. Students may benefit from these links either through internships or placements in later stages.

Students’ visits to the industry are an important part of the curriculum. This provides the students with an opportunity to assist and work with some leading media professionals. This interaction helps in enhancing their creative abilities and skills regarding real media environment.

A series of guest lecture by top media icons including, Directors, Producers, Writers, Actors, Performers, Anchors, Comperes, Cameramen, Editors and other leading professionals in the industry are a regular part of RIMS activities.

Futuristic Plans

International University has license for students Radio Channel and is working on a proposal for an educational TV channel.


Postgraduate Diploma For ISPR

International University has designed and offered a two-semester PGD TV Production and Media Management for officers of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) of Pakistan Armed Forces. The course has the potential to develop into M.A. Mass Communication and M.A. TV production and includes elements of television production techniques, communication skills, media management and concepts of image-building through media. Such tailor-made courses for other institutions and organizations are also available.
